Ashraf said Misbah is expected to help form a cricket committee that will include other former players.
I want to involve our former players in cricketing and technical decisions, Ashraf said, adding that Misbah would also help the board at ICC meetings and other forums. Talking about other important issues, Ashraf added: We will soon look at the national selection committee as well as the post of chief selector (which is currently vacant). Misbah, Pakistan’s most successful captain with 26 wins in 56 matches, last served PCB as head coach and chief selector from 2019 to 2021.
He stepped down as head selector at the end of 2020 but remained Pakistan’s head coach until the end of 2021 when Rameez Raja, who took over as PCB chairman, forced his resignation ahead of the T20 World Cup.
A board source said that while Ashraf wanted Misbah to take up a permanent position at PCB, the latter refused, citing his commitments to the media and other organizations this year. Misbah’s appointment is honorary, which means he will not receive any remuneration for his services.
