Siraj played in both Tests against West Indies and made five overs (5/60) in the second match in Trinidad.
With Siraj rested, the Indian pace attack now consists of Jaydev Unadkat, Umran Malik, Shardul Thakur and Mukesh Kumar, who did not feature in the ODIs. Siraj has been playing consistently since the beginning of the IPL. Since then, he has played in three Tests in a row. He will now directly join the Asia Cup camp at the NCA to prepare for the World Cup, a BCCI source said on Thursday. According to PTI, none of the main squad players included in the World Cup plans will go to Ireland. Siraj will not be considered for the upcoming white-ball tournament in Ireland and will be part of the squad for the Asia Cup to be held in Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Siraj has taken part in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Australia since the start of the year.
He contributed significantly to India’s 2-1 win over Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and took 19 wickets for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 14 Indian Premier League matches. He then also played against Australia in the final of the World Test Championship in June.
